Hiring During the Holidays

Hiring in a competitive candidate market at any time during the year can be hard. But hiring around the holidays? That’s another level.

Hiring around the holidays can be inevitable. Perhaps your company has experienced employee resignations, promotions or growth. Or maybe you’re looking forward to the coming year and trying to get a head start on hitting your hiring needs ahead of the curve. This time of year presents extra hurdles in the hiring process.

Many candidates take time off around the holidays and aren’t actively pursuing new opportunities. With vacations, and holiday company parties and potential bonuses, it becomes a difficult time for an employee to leave their position. Within the healthcare industry, there tends to be a pull to stay and take care of the clients at hand.

If you find yourself needing to hire around the holidays, here are some tips to keep in mind:

  1. Ask your current employees for referrals

  2. Leverage social media for hiring efforts

  3. Keep your interview process to a maximum of 3 meetings

  4. Move quickly within the hiring process - from the first interview to the offer, this should take no longer than 2 weeks

  5. Make sure you allow for a great candidate experience. It’s important to review your hiring process and cut out any unnecessary meetings, calls, steps.

  6. Consider offering a sign-on bonus
